Member Benefits:
Representation
The AFA represents the interests of franchisees to the media, the government and the
public. When there is a difference of opinion between franchisees and their
franchisors, AFA will act as the advocate for the franchisee
position. And, just like the American Medical Association (AMA) whose
member doctors join knowing that someone is watching out for their interests, franchisees
who join the AFA know that were watching out for their interests at a local and
state level as well as on Capitol Hill.
Networking
AFA members can network frequently at the Franchisee Leadership Summit held each year in a
different part of the country (see "News" for a
complete Calendar of Events). At the Franchisee Leadership Summit, the leaders of
independent franchisee associations are invited to spend a day sharing their experiences
and discussing issues of concern. Franchisees can also network on AFA's Web
Community through the chat rooms, discussion forums and personal web sites.
Education
The AFAs educational programs are scheduled frequently in various parts of the
country. The Franchisee Legal Symposium is one of our most popular programs (check out "News" for a complete Calendar of Events). AFA schedules
its Legislative Affairs Days (LAD) in Washington, DC as needed to train franchisees in
grassroots advocacy and to visit with their elected Representatives and Senators.
Franchisee Lawyers
When you or your franchisee association need a lawyer, you need a franchisee
lawyer. Someone whom you dont have to pay to get up-to-speed on franchise law and
someone who will argue aggressively on your behalf. AFAs Directory of Affiliate
Members (see "Legal") will put you in contact
with some of the best franchisee lawyers in the country.
Forming a Franchisee Association Videotape
The AFAs Why Form an Independent Franchisee Association 35-minute videotape
is an excellent tool for the leadership of start-up franchisee associations. It was shot
on location at a meeting of fast food franchisees as they were deciding whether or not to
form their independent association. Franchisee leaders from three other chains joined them
at this first organizational meeting. Why Form an Independent Franchisee Association
is available for phone order at $30 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. Order it here.
Insurance
The AFA is an insurance policy protecting the investment youve already made in your
franchise. When you think about it, your premiums are very inexpensive for what you get.
And just like insurance, you pay your premiums, hoping that you dont need them! The
time to buy fire insurance is not when the restaurant is on fire!
Dues
Membership in the AFA is $100 per location annually for individuals ($2,500 maximum). Dues
for independent franchisee associations are $25.00 per location annually
($2,500 minimum,
$60,000 maximum).
